Axe Ferns Captains Report 2017

Captain’s Report NZ Axe Ferns 2016-2017

Kia ora all, I would like to start with how grateful and humbled I was to be named Captain of the NZ Axe Ferns 2017. This was a privilege and a highlight in my sporting year. Also standing beside me, what an amazing bunch of talented women with this line up our confidence going into Sydney was huge.

First relay we won by one hit, second relay we were beaten by one hit, with a small DQ behind that. Saving the best till last, winning by 19 hits in front of Australia and the USA, WOW what a buzz!

The commitment and dedication shown by all team members was A+ and proved by the end result of winning the relay as well as producing excellent individual results. We all know how proud our family and friends felt, what a great feeling of satisfaction.

Now most importantly to all the people behind the scenes; clubs who have put extra events on, getting the logs, hosting us at their shows – Waikato and Ikamatua- outstanding! To the NZ axemen and women who have helped us in the woodchopping rings of NZ and Australia, to Faavae Sefo and Tuatahi for the gear, to all coaches and supporters and families; all your help has made great things happen.

To Paula Poasa, wahine toa, no words can express how much this lady has given to the NZ Axe Ferns behind the scenes as well as straight up in your face. The next manager has big boots to fill. We wish you all the best in whatever life offers you, it has been well earned.
