New Zealand Womens Team

A squad of seven Women were selected in 2015 to compete at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Ashleigh Heath and Alma Wallace under hand cutters, Darcell Apelu single sawyer, double pairings were Rachael Roberts and Kerry Mahuika, Kylie Heaton and myself.

Paula Poasa managed the women’s team and as usual did a sterling job. She really gave it her all to do everything in our best interest.

Our first race against the Australian womens’ Team went well with New Zealand narrowly coming away with a win. The next two races New Zealand were unfortunate to be beaten by half a hit in each.

It was a great combined effort from all the New Zealand ladies who did what they could at the time.

A big thank you must go out to Adam Lowe and Alastair Taylor for putting us through our paces and helping us through our transitions, your assistance was invaluable

As Captain I’m an avid believer in having training days prior to International racing, not only does it help with skills but also prepares us for racing.

Many thanks to the South Island men led by Roger Thain and Keven Mahuika for organizing and challenging us in racing on our training weekend it was certainly great to have your support.

For future women’s team racing it is important to remember along with working on personal fitness each individual needs to aim at focusing on their own discipline and when united we support each other and we will have a formidable team.
