NZ Colts Captain's Report 2016-2017

Captain’s Report - Royal Adelaide Show 2016

This year saw one of our more experienced under 21’s teams, of recent years travel to Adelaide to compete. The team comprised of Jack Jordan, Logan Tinomana, Aidan Grant, Brodie Grant, Nic Corbin, Rex Petersen, Tawhai Lackner and myself.

While all team members cut admirably, we were unable to win the series against our Australian counterparts. However, we did finish the series with a win in the final test.

Our senior axemen performed extremely well throughout the show, Jack gaining a good lead in each race and Logan always finishing strong. The Grant boys on the saw only continued to improve on previous years’ efforts which is great to see.

Tawhai and Brodie did very well when asked to cut underhand blocks for the team, something neither one had done previously. Nic put up three great cuts on the single saw in each race. The new double saw pairing of Aidan and Rex held their own when sawing together in the final race, allowing Brodie to cut an underhand.

I would like to thank our manager Ed Tinomana for all the work he has done to organise the team which allowed us to compete in Adelaide.

It was enjoyable to watch the Veterans team cut early in the show. I appreciated the opportunity to meet and talk with many of the Veteran’s members, as their knowledge and advice seemed valuable to our team members. Along with some of the Women’s team members it was great to have a large New Zealand contingent present for extra support.
